Vision YouthAction was founded in 2002 by 30 young leaders who participated in international volunteer exchange project between Taiwan and U.S.A . From 2002 to 2007, VYA had been successful in setting up a regional youth volunteer center to promote very short term community service from one day to one week. Over 5,000 young people served as volunteers, donating more than 160,000 hours for social services in the past few years. In August, 2007, in collaboration with NICE Japan, the first international workcamp in Taiwan originated in a small fishing village in the mid-western coast of Taiwan. It has been developing rapidly and variously catering to the huge needs of projects & motivations of people!
Since 2002, VYA had organized 5 international volunteer exchanges program between Taiwan and U.S.A. And over the years, in total, VYA had planned over 11 different types of voluntary service projects. Two of them were very short term community service projects from one day to one week and the others were from at least one week to three weeks.
In total, over 4359 youth volunteers come from 15 countries had got involved in all VYA voluntary service projects, which cooperated with over 255 local NPOs and international NGOs.
(1) Very short term Community service project (VSTCSP) : VYA was coordinated and organized with local volunteer and NPOs to promote community voluntarism. The duration of most VSTCSPs are from one day to one week. Since 2006, over 3718 local volunteers engaged in VYA's Very short Term Community Service Projects to organized 265 community service projects. Participants totally donated over 128,000 hours for social services. 11% of VYA's VSTCSP were held for one day volunteer project, 51% of them for a 2 to 7 days, 18% of them for 8 to 14 days and 20% of them forwere over 2 weeks.
(2) International WorkCamp in Taiwan : The first workcamp in Taiwan was held in 2007 by VYA and cooperated with NICE Japan . This workcamp was an art workcamp combined with community development. We worked together with local artist association and painted in community. We have hosted 6 volunteers from Japan, 2 from Korea, 6 from national Taiwan and 11 from local volunteers in the first workcamp in Taiwan. We had created a “Game Map” for players to travel around the world on the wall. In total, 22 Walls of introduction Asian countries and 3 Walls of countries images for the community habitants to promote global understanding and friendship.
